What Sets Helpful Apart

Of course we help with the tough stuff, anxiety, trauma, burnout, identity, relationships, and all the messiness of life. But what makes our team different is how we do it. We believe change doesn’t just come from techniques, but from real, honest connection. That’s why we care so much about helping you find a therapist who feels like the right fit. And once we’re in the room together, we’re not just thinking about you. We’re thinking about all the systems that shape your life. Your family, your community, your job, the healthcare system. These systems, and the inequities within them, affect how we move through the world. We take that into account when understanding your experiences and behavior. Because what feels like a personal struggle is often not your fault.

How Therapy Is Helpful To You

Therapy is more than just talking, it’s a place where you can be heard, seen, and understood without judgment. It’s a chance to untangle the thoughts and feelings that weigh you down and to discover new ways to cope, heal, and grow. After starting therapy, many people notice they feel lighter, more in control, and better able to handle life’s challenges. You might find new clarity, stronger boundaries, or a deeper sense of self-worth. Our therapists all work through a trauma lens, focusing on building a real connection with you and honoring your unique story. We blend proven techniques like mindfulness, CBT, DBT, Person-Centered, Psychodynamic, and Feminist therapy to fit what you need, not a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether it’s anxiety, burnout, relationships, identity, or everyday struggles, therapy offers a brave space to explore it all.

Our Commitment to Anti-Oppressive Care

At Helpful, our therapists bring a wide range of clinical training, specialties, and lived experiences, but the framework that unites every provider on our team is a shared commitment to practicing through an anti-oppressive lens.

For us, anti-oppressive care means recognizing how systems of power, privilege, and oppression impact mental health and us showing up in ways that honor each person’s identity and lived experience. It means creating spaces where clients feel seen, respected, and empowered without judgment, assumptions, or the need to explain who they are.

We believe that true healing happens when care is grounded in equity, cultural humility, and an ongoing commitment to challenging harmful norms, both in therapy and in ourselves.

FAQ

  • Therapy is often more affordable than you might think, especially if you're planning to use insurance. Many clients find that their only out-of-pocket cost is a low copay, which can be as little as $10–$50 per session. If your insurance plan requires you to meet a deductible before coverage begins, summer is an excellent time to start therapy. The average person with employer-sponsored insurance hits their deductible in May, meaning by June many are paying only a small percentage of the session cost.

We are happy to check your benefits and provide a cost estimate for you. Simply click the Therapy Cost Estimator button, complete a short form and we can call your insurance company on your behalf.

If you plan to pay out of pocket our self pay rate is $150.
