Chiropractors are licensed healthcare professionals who focus mainly on the vertebral chain and emphasize the body’s ability to heal itself. Treatment is patient-centered, non-invasive, and typically involves manual (by hand) manipulation of the bones and muscles of the neck, back, spine, and hips. Chiropractic practice is not massage therapy, though massage may be incorporated. Other forms of treatment, such as exercise and nutritional counseling, may be added to the therapy program.
The health plan only covers manual manipulation of the spine to correct a subluxation, which is where a spinal vertebra is deemed out of position and fails to move properly in comparison to the other vertebrae, possibly resulting in functional loss. The chiropractor will manipulate the spine in the area of the displaced vertebra.
No other chiropractic services or tests are covered.
